Its 18th-century Serbian church, in Baroque style, boasts a beautiful icon from Mount Athos and a large carved wooden cross. You'll also see the small neoclassical Nako castle (1864) and the memorial house of composer Béla Bártok (1881-1945). A little further on, in the village of Cenad, stand the ruins of the Morisena fortress and an ancient monastery, with magnificent stained-glass windows. Both date back to the 10thcentury. 30 km from Sânnicolau Mare, the village of Beba Veche has nothing exceptional, apart from its location: it's Romania's most westerly point, on the borders of Hungary and Serbia.
