With the proximity of the Tongue of the Ocean, large drop-offs can be seen near the Berry Islands. The islet of Chub Cay is famous for its crystal clear waters and the good visibility of its seabed. The numerous coral gardens that dot the bottom are the meeting places for reef sharks and eagle rays; the vertiginous drop-offs, which drop down to 2,000 m, and beautiful wrecks are the main underwater curiosities of the Berry Islands. Here are a few spots:Mama Rhoda Rock. A real Japanese underwater garden. Elkhorn corals, huge groupers, eagle rays, angelfish, moray eels and lobsters, all very accessible, the reef is shallow between 3 and 6 m deep.Truck Lagoon and Plane Wreck. Between 18 and 20 m deep, an airplane cabin and a truck chassis are inhabited by angelfish; groupers and swordfish keep them company.Dynamite Wall. A colourful drop-off starts at 24 m, where schools of tuna can be seen criss-crossing the depths.Canyon and Caves. Between 4.5 and 15 m, caves and tunnels dot the reef inhabited by angelfish and barracuda.Scuba Hole. Between 7.5 and 12 m. One of the filming locations of Splash, where angelfish and coral abound Sugar Beach Caves. Considered the most beautiful site in the Bahamas, is a set of sandy caves dug into the cliff face.Hoffman Cay. A blue hole 180 meters deep.
