The huge basilica built in 1955 and restored in 2006 houses the image of Nossa Senhora Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil, found in 1717 in the Paraiba do Sul river. Its construction in neo-Roman style has 173 m of extension and the naves are 40 m high, it is the second largest church in the world.
This new construction is linked by a footbridge to the old basilica, where the first chapel in honour of Nossa Senhora Aprarecida was built. Museum of Sacred Art,
