19,830 inhabitants. Puerto Suárez, capital of the province of Germán Busch, is a port located on the marshy shores of Lake Cáceres, which communicates with the Paraguay River 10 km from the Brazilian border. Founded in 1875 by Miguel Suárez Arana, a Bolivian businessman, it was once an important commercial center for coffee and rubber. Today, the main sources of employment are petrochemical and electrical plants. Puerto Suarez is the gateway to the Bolivian Pantanal, from the town of San Matías to be precise. In the surroundings, the iron mine of Cerro Mutún is one of the biggest in the world.
