Located 55 km north of Trinidad on ruta 3, this lake is a popular place for tourists because of its beautiful setting with sandy beaches, beautiful landscapes and a campsite. Every year in March, the site hosts the Festival del Lago Andresito le Canta al País, where the country's most popular singers perform on stage. The lake is named after Andrés Guacurarí, an Indian from San Borjas in Brazil, who grew up in the Jesuit missions and was adopted by Artigas in 1811 in Ayuí. As a gaucho rider who had known submission and oppression, Andresito had a deep aversion to the occupation, just like Artigas.
