TREK DEL CHORO
El Choro" is one of the most famous pre-Hispanic paths (also called " Camino del Inca") in Bolivia. It is located between La Paz and Coroico, in the heart of the Cotapata National Park.
Duration: 4 days for the Choro Trek (57 km, preferably from April to September).
Difficulty: 6 to 7 hours of walking per day, accessible to all.
Day 1: start of the trek from La Cumbre (4,650 m or 4,725 m altitude, depending on the source) above La Paz, which is also the starting point for the mountain bike circuits of the carretera de la Muerte.
You can reach Callapampa (3,200 m above sea level) via the Inca Trail (El Choro). Maximum altitude: 4 859 m (Abra Chucura, where it is advisable to give a stone to the apacheta). You can sleep about 2 hours after this highest point, at the Estancia Samaña Panpa (camping and shelter), or at the village of Chucura a little further (you have to pay a toll there), or 1 hour after the village (several camping sites near a river), or at the village of Challapampa (2,825 m of altitude): this last one is located 7 hours after the beginning of the trek.
Day 2 and day 3 (depending on your pace): continuation of the descent towards more tropical climates. Suspension bridge at Choro (2,200 m altitude). Waterfalls on the way. Count on about 6 hours of walking from Choro to reach Casa Sandillani. Camp in the garden of a Japanese hermit.
Day 4 : Arrival in Chairo in the morning (2 hours 30 minutes descent from Sandillani). Continue to Coroico (Yolosa is 16 km away, Coroico 7 km further) or return to La Paz.
