This is another way to get out of the hustle and bustle of Yangon City for a few hours. At the gateway to the delta region in the southwest of Yangon, the small town of Twante is known for its pottery and cotton work. Many agencies in Yangon will offer you excursions to Twante. Very affected by Cyclone Nargis in 2008, the small town itself is nothing special, but the ferry ride to Twante is a nice way to get there. The ferry leaves from the pier at the end of Pansodan Street. Once on the other side, you opt for the pick-up truck or cart, which is more authentic. But Twante is also the city that the Shwesandow Paya keeps in its heart, this zedi of more than 76 meters high is sometimes known to be as old as the inevitable and famous Shwedagon pagoda of Yangon: more than 2500 years old... Which is not insignificant indeed!
