The lagoon of Tortuguero Park, a little jewel of nature, is what Vega Baja is known for. It is the largest lagoon in the archipelago and is an ecologically important area due to the variety of aquatic flora and fauna that it shelters. Pictures of its marshes surrounding mogotes (steep hills) have made the tour of the island. It is part of the hectares of mangrove that Puerto Ricans are struggling to preserve.
