The necropolises of Combayo, located 20 km from Cajamarca, are less easily accessible, but better preserved than those of Otuzco, because of their relative isolation. Clinging in rows to the limestone cliffs and partially covered with mossy vegetation, one can appreciate the trace that the Caxamarca populations wanted to leave. Their age is estimated at 3,500 years. Located on the side of Cerro San Cristobal, they form part of the Capac Ñan or "Gran Camino Inca". These tombs can be seen from a path. Some of them still contain the bones for which they were dug. It is best to take a guided and private tour.
