Situated in a protected biotope 20 km east of Tikal, El Zotz - meaning "bat " - is of great historical and archaeological importance, having provided essential information on the Classic period. With over 49 structures, the monumental site is home to four main groups:The eastern group, consisting of a main square surrounded by a variety of structures, including two mortuary pyramids.The central group includes an acropolis to the north, a pelota court to the south, and low platforms and pyramids to the west.The "Group of Five Temples", a square with four pyramids. A long triadic temple extends to the east.The southern group, an acropolis-like complex spread around an inner patio and covered by dense vegetation.In addition, the highest structure on the site, the Temple del Diablo, is located almost 1 km west of the heart of the city.in 2010, archaeologists discovered a royal tomb containing several pieces of jade jewelry and six children's skeletons, sacrificed on the death of the sovereign.
