Maloukou-Tréchot is a pleasant little village nestling on the banks of the great river, where fishing and farming are the mainstays of life. It's a pleasant, quiet outing from the capital. A basic inn will welcome you for a modest sum. The name Tréchot comes from François Tréchot, a former French sailor and merchant. A true explorer, he discovered many parts of the Congo by boat. In 1897, with the help of Savorgnan de Brazza, he founded the Compagnie française du Haut Congo, and controlled trade in the Likouala-Mossaka basin. At the same time, he developed the real estate sector in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire.
