Classified as a national park since 1974, Bia is a reserve of more than 550 km2, and is home to the Bia National Park, which covers an area of 77 km2 and was classified as a biosphere reserve by Unesco in 1983. The park includes areas of primeval forest, home to some of the largest specimen trees in the whole of West Africa. Endemic fauna thrives in the national park: some sixty species, including primates, leopards, buffalo and elephants, are at home here. You'll also come across the Agama Sylvanus, a rare lizard, as well as numerous eagles and around a hundred species of birds.
