Anaa is an average atoll of 28 km long over 5 km wide, 150 km south of Fakarava and 437 km northeast of Tahiti, consisting of 11 islets and devoid of pass. Tuuhora is the main village. Once the most populous atoll of Polynesia, Anaa was famous for its warriors who invaded the neighboring atolls, and established their domination of the Northwest Tuamotu atolls, towards the end of the seventeenth century. They exercised their authority in Rangiroa and Manihi, who were devastated, forcing their inhabitants to exile on other moars. In 1850, a popular uprising erupted against Catholic missionaries when the atoll had 2,000 inhabitants. The atoll made it speak of him at the end of 2011 on the occasion of the film's release and the Moral of Mathieu Kassovitz: a lot of the scenes were turned on there.Today, Anaa has 811 inhabitants (Census 2017), quiet Paumotu living at the traditional rhythm of fishing and coprahculture. Anaa has an airport, and a pension that organizes excursions on the lagoon.
