BIRD ISLAND (MOTU TEAKU)

Small motu inside the lagoon, it is the den of colonies of terns, frigates and other gannets that nest there. Formerly located in an area of primeval forest between Vairearea and Oeva, northeast of the atoll, these bird colonies were forced to migrate as a result of fires and clearing operations.
