Created in 1920, these gardens once covered 137 hectares, planted with hundreds of varieties of exotic flowers and trees, which Smith imported from America, Asia and Africa. Left abandoned several times at his death, they were partly (only 18 ha) bought back by the government. However, due to a lack of official protection, they were again neglected: the tree nursery closed and no new plantations replaced the old felled trees.

Jardin historique agréable, mais qui nécessiterait plus d'entretien et de panneaux explicatifs. C'est dommage, car il pourrait être nettement plus agréable.

Très beau jardin botanique chargé d'histoire délaissé par les autorités.Il y a seulement deux caissières et quelques hommes d'entretiens. Magnifique collection de palmiers, une belle forêt de Mape et des vieux arbres qui méritent le détour. Nous y étions tout seuls toute la journée.Prix 600 francs.
