Noul Lamta, a listed national monument, is known for its importance in medieval and Almoravid history. It played a crucial role in the trans-Saharan route and was a major urban, social and economic center. Archaeological research confirms that it is one of the oldest medieval towns in southern Morocco, serving as a passage for caravans and a gathering place for Saharan and Sous tribes. The town boasts a number of notable remains, including the Akwidir fortress and an ancient mint (Dar Assika).
