The palmarium at Ankanin'ny Nofy, a 50-hectare private reserve 2? hours by boat from Tamatave (60 km to the south), features a dozen varieties of free-ranging lemurs, reptiles, amphibians and palms of all kinds. The lemurs are completely free! Superb! Paradise has to be earned, they say: if there's a track linking the RN2 to Ankanin'ny Nofy (a sign indicates it at Ambodisovoka, 43 km after Brickaville), in a sorry state of repair, it's best not to take it. Only boats will ensure you reach your destination. The Palmarium offers crossings to and from Manambato, Tamatave, Ambila and Vatomandry.
