Until the 1960s, this village was very isolated from the rest of the island because of the surrounding terrain and was only accessible by donkey. Since then, bulldozers have passed through here to carve the road in the rock, but the village retains all its authenticity with its paved pedestrian streets and low houses typical of the Canary Islands. The population has declined in the face of the rural exodus, as in this whole part of the island, but tourists in search of peace and quiet have found refuge here. The village is close to the cultural centre La Zarza and the starting point for many walks, especially climbing in the pine forest above it.
