15 km from Bahia and 3 km from San Clemente. Chirije (pronounced "chi-ri-hé") is home to a beautiful ecological and archaeological park. Created in 1996, it includes 238 ha of tropical dry forest and miles of pristine beaches. The hill was home to various peoples during the pre-Columbian era. You can visit the archaeological site of Chirije, an ancient port of the Bahia culture. There, you can visit the museum and see the pieces brought back from the excavations by the archaeologists but also those brought back by the park staff as well as those found by the tourists during their walks on the beaches.
