South-west of Wexford, it is easy to reach the superb Hook Head peninsula, where you will find historical monuments, such as Tintern Abbey, or the Hook Head lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the world still in operation (13th century). This promontory also offers a charming coastline with fine sandy beaches, very pretty little fishing villages, good spots for birdwatching, especially in the Bannow estuary, and places for big game fishing. Inland, there are also good options for hiking on the trails of the peninsula
