The pottery village of Thanh Ha, a few kilometers west of Hôi An, was founded in the 16th century by families from the north of the country. Its inhabitants produced clay pottery for export when the town was an important port visited by foreign merchants. Today, 35 families still perpetuate the craft tradition of their ancestors, producing pieces that make excellent souvenirs for travellers. Pottery courses are also offered by local craftsmen.
