Founded in 1922, this small roça, built of laterite blocks around a central space, was abandoned after Independence. In 2011, the inhabitants of the village adjacent to the former plantation set about renovating the property to accommodate a luxury hotel in 2014. The result is superb, as is the view over one of the island's most beautiful bays, Praia Banana. Famous for having been the setting for a Bacardi advert in 1991, this beach is a little corner of paradise, hemmed in by turquoise waters and planted with coconut palms. Here, you can relax on deckchairs or on the golden sand, or go snorkeling.
