Although created in 1932, the Gilé Reserve (2,860 km²) is one of the least developed in the country. It is a pity because, on the one hand, it is the only one that is absolutely not inhabited by man and, on the other hand, it has a fauna a little richer than elsewhere: lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, kudus, impalas, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, etc., 95 species of mammals in all! It also has a very large variety of birds. France is engaged in a project to rehabilitate and preserve this exceptional wealth. Tourism is one of the elements selected to promote the development of the region.
