The Petrified Forest of Maadi appeared about 35 million years ago. We can therefore understand the interest of Egypt to protect such a heritage, a natural, scientific and tourist wealth. Located 18 km east of Maadi, north of the road from Katameya to Ein El Sokhna, it is in the form of a plateau, where cliffs and hills rise. This forest is an object of interest for scientists and students doing research in Egyptology. This region is considered a geological gem. A large number of petrified tree trunks are buried under layers of sand 70 to 100 metres thick.
