20 km south of Charm, on the road to El-Tur, an exceptional site with an underwater fauna so varied that the Egyptian government has classified it as a national park to preserve it from the ravages of hunting and coral plundering. Discipline is strict. So much the better! Without it, Ras Mohamed would not be what it is: a magical meeting between the desert and the sea.The water is so clear that one is dizzy when one sees the pits. Thousands of species of fish of all colours can be found there without your presence really seeming to disturb them. It is common to come across "big caliber" barracudas or giant rays, very playful. However, it is not recommended to play with them. It is even better to find out beforehand about the Red Sea fishes that could hurt you: scorpion fishes, moray eels, stonefish...The site is huge. No matter how crowded it is, it is always possible to find a small quiet beach. To get there, there is no other alternative than to rent a car or a taxi for the day. Bring everything you might need (flippers, mask, snorkel and snacks, as you won't find anything there). Respect the park's instruction: "Leave nothing behind and take nothing with you", a polite way of asking you to take your empty bottles with you, and not to destroy the coral. Regarding the latter, be aware that excavations can be carried out by the guards. Everyone is supposed to have left the site by nightfall.
