Mount Giluwe, 4,368 m, is the highest volcanic peak in Papua and Australia and the second highest peak in the country. This prompts a number of climbers to climb the climb, otherwise magnificent. The more modest Mount Hagen, about 3,500 meters above sea level, is also a beautiful course and offers magnificent views of the surroundings of Hagen. These two ascents require at least 2 days walking from the villages of departure. Like Mount Wilhelm, they don't have any particular technical difficulties, but the conditions in which the climb takes place make it difficult. The trails are not traced, we have to walk in the jungle, bivouaing at high altitude in the cold, and it rains regularly… It is under no circumstances an adventure to try lightly and a guide will be indispensable, the best being to resort to an agency. In Port Moresby, Daniel Wakra of New Guinea Natural Tours (++675 7688 0978) can organize these two ascents. In Hagen, Paiya Tours (++675 7685 8183) can also handle this. The Kumul Lodge (++675 542 1615) organizes the rise of Mount Hagen with bivouac in caves…
