The "white village" is a joy for amateur photographers during Sunday mass. Historical center of the "Disciples of the Lord" or Mpianatry ny Tompo (a fundamentalist Protestant current, a sect some say), Soatanana offers the spectacle of its white-clad flock: a long dress called akanjo didimananjara, an ivory-colored shawl called fitafy and a straw hat, the satroka. The village is based on the principle of a structured collective economy, under the leadership of a council of elders. On Sundays, people sing all day long (very beautiful prayers, which evoke both Corsican polyphonies and Bulgarian songs).
