To get the most out of these timeless landscapes and villages, you'll need several days. The most suitable means of transport is by foot. If you don't have enough time, don't hesitate to book two full days, so that you can spend at least one night in a typical village, staying with local people. The most classic starting point for tourists in Zafimaniry "country" is Antoetra, a small village around 40 km from Ambositra (approx. 1h30 drive). En route, you'll come across tombs topped by teza (wooden hearts), carved wooden posts (up to 20 m high). Antoetra's market day is Wednesday, which means there's no traffic to get there. The art of Zafimaniry sculpture was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2006.
