Sibu airport dates back to the Second World War. What was once an earthy runway for warplanes has become over the years, through expansions and renovations, an airport of international stature. Air Asia connects it to Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur KLIA2 and Kuching. Malaysia Airlines connects it to Kuala Lumpur KLIA. MASWings serves the small towns of Bintulu, Miri and Mukah. Finally, Malindo liaises with Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei. The airport is 23 km away from Sibu city centre.
