KISITE MARINE PARK
One of the most beautiful natural parks in Kenya and one of the most beautiful excursions to undertake on the coast at Shimoni
This is one of the most beautiful marine nature parks in Kenya and one of the most beautiful excursions to undertake on the coast. The reef has an absolutely magical setting. In the middle of the turquoise water stands out a tiny coral islet surrounded by a small white sand beach. Located on the southern coast of Kenya, near Shimoni and south of Wasini Island, close to the Tanzanian border, the Kisite Marine Park covers 11 km², while the Mpunguti Reserve covers 28 km². The aquatic world of Kisite-Mpunguti is spread over several islands and includes a beautiful portion of the coral reef, where you can observe a profusion of multicolored fish with fins, mask and snorkel. It is also one of the most beautiful sites on the coast for scuba diving. The best period for diving is from October to March. From June to August, the sea is rough and visibility is poor. Some islands are covered by equatorial forest, the island of Kisite is a grassy steppe. It goes without saying that the park is extremely rich in aquatic flora and fauna, the main attraction being its dolphins. There are also many birds nesting on the islands. You can go boating and diving, coral watching, dolphin watching and bird watching. Excursions can be arranged from many hotels in the area, including Diani. You can also use the services of a local boat, sailing on a traditional dhow, with many excursions being organised from Shimoni.
