If you wish to make a splendid loop, far from the beaten tracks, that passing by Oujeft is a nugget, to be carried out obligatorily in 4x4 with a driver knowing perfectly the area.Oujeft, without having the seniority of the historical cities of Mauritania, was nevertheless created in the XVIIIth century. Due to its geographical location, the city played a strategic role during the French colonization. Away from the main penetration routes usually used by the French and tucked away in the foothills of the Adrar massif, Oujeft was often used as a rear base by those who resisted French rule. It was from here that an attack in the direction of Tidjikja began in 1905, during which Xavier Coppolani was killed. Today, Oujeft is a large, quiet town where a feeling of tranquility prevails. Within a radius of about fifty kilometers around Oujeft, there are many oases that are worth a visit. Those of Berbâra and Toungad are worth a stop for the peace and serenity they exude, far from the tumult of some places too busy. Special mention for the oasis of El-Hnouk: it is indeed as encrusted between two cliffs, like a jewel in its case. Not far from the oasis of El-Hnouk is the lake of Leglatt, inconceivable and in total contradiction with the idea that neophytes can have of a dry and arid Sahara where life would be absent. Among other niches of life in this desert, let us quote Tintâne, Agmeimîne and Echaîla.
