The Bridgetown centre consists of a military garrison erected, like the surrounding streets, by the English during their colonization of the island. This colonial style, in contrast to the style of the Spanish and the Dutch, surprises its narrow and winding streets. The whole was built in 2011 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This historic heart also evokes the glorious economic past of Barbados. The island was one of the first British conquests to obtain a fortified port, thus becoming central to the trade in the region. The opulence of Barbados, born of this flourishing trade, is discovered in these sumptuous buildings, worthy of London.
