Built in 1892 and standing 22 meters high, the Kankesanthurai lighthouse was quickly decommissioned during the war. Restored by the army and the archaeological department, it was declared a tourist site in October 2014. It is now visible behind beautiful wrought-iron gates, but cannot be visited. However, the gallery and lantern overlooking the dazzling white octagonal tower can be admired in gold.
