The park takes its name from the River Baoulé, which takes its source in the Mandinkas Mountains. Le describes a narrow loop before throwing himself into the Bakoye, a tributary of Senegal. It is the area of this loop that is protected. The park is surrounded by several natural reserves (Réserves, Fina, Kongossambougou, Kenié-Baoulé). This vast protected area stretches over 800 000 ha from Siby to Kita to the edge of the Mauritanian border. It includes several ecosystems (forest-gallery, dry forest, palm trees, bamboo forest, lakes, ponds…).Unfortunately, because of the large presence of poachers that do not respect the boundaries of the park, there are very few mammals. Only the lions are visible during the dry season. You have to go near the water points to see them; we need to be very lucky. On the other hand, many birds can be observed: black eagles, "beaks of fishermen", metal blackbirds, guinea fowl…The park also contains some interesting sites. The area would have been populated for a very long time. In Oussadian, an industry of flint silex dates from the upper Paleolithic. In the middle of Fina's reserve there are many malinké tombs and the remains of Fina's vast Tata Tata, a huge area of nearly one kilometre in diameter. Finally, the ruins and military cemetery of the fort of Koundou are the testimony of the colonial era where, on this hill, the position ensured the safety of convoys in that region.
