On March 21, 1965, a march of nearly 25 000 people took the departure of Selma, 54 miles west of Montgomery, to demonstrate in favour of civil rights. She succeeded in two other failed attempts by army and order forces, on 7 and 9 March. Cettre third landed at the State Capitol on March 25. Five months later, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act which prohibits discrimination in practices or voting procedures due to race or colour. Today, this march led to the creation of a trail. On the latter, two information centres are located at Selma Interpretive Center and half way through the Lowndes Interpretive Center.
