Chiredzi is not very interesting, apart from its huge sugar cane plantations and its proximity to Gonarezhou. The town was established in the 1960s as a result of agricultural development in the Lowveld region. It has a post office, some banks, gas stations and various stores. It is the last center to get supplies before the wilderness of Gonarezhou. The town has good public transport links and the bus station has daily departures to Masvingo, Gweru, Mutare, Harare and Bulawayo. The Buffalo Range bush airport, next to Chiredzi, receives charter flights.
