Dedicated to the Phoenician Phoenician God, the temple was built in the middle of a lush orange orchard (Boustane el-Sheikh), 4 km northeast of Saida. Its construction is apparently due to the king of Sidon Eshmounazar (life-Ve B.C.), including the dynasty of a particular cult to this healing god.At that time, the Persian Empire, at its peak, invaded Phoenicia, uniting the natives to combat the Greeks and Egyptians by sea. Thanks to their bold sailors, the Phoenicians had a certain Autonomy, and the King of Sidon had an important place in the Persian War Council.Started at the beginning of the 1963 th century, the site excavation began in with the work of a team of archaeologists led by Maurice Dunand.Since the war, the site has been gradually invaded by vegetation. Today, it gives only a vague image of what was one of the most grandiose Phoenician monuments of the Persian era.
