One hour by bus to the southwest of Ningbo (35 km), Xikou (mouth of the river) is a pretty village (its history dates back over 2 000 years) from the county of Fenghua and the birthplace of the great nationalist leader Chiang Kai-chek (Jiang Jieshi 1887-1975).The family home is now open to the public: a beautiful stay in the traditional style of the region, known as Fenghao. The building consists of a central court and overlooks the Shanxi River in the south. The ensemble was supplemented by a temple dedicated to the ancestors in 1930: The architecture of the temple Baoben is decorated with head of horses, used by the aristocratic families. The Chiang family made a name through the salt trade: Chang Yubiao, Chiang Kai's grandfather set up a house of commerce in Ningbo under the Qing. The building on two levels is still standing today (commemorative plaque at the entrance).Chiang Kai's mother is buried at the foot of the mountain Baiyan: in front of its grave, a traditional Chinese portico and a 600 m walk in the middle of a pine forest. The surrounding countryside and the green rolling landscape are worth a visit: the Sanxi River region, which originates in the Sanjieling mountains, has been a tourist site for centuries. Also visit the Pavillon pavilion built in 1927 to commemorate Chiang Kai-chek's victory and his takeover after the Expedition du Nord.
