With its perte buildings, flooded streets and pressed pedestrian queues, Nanchang is not unlike other Chinese cities. If its name literally means "prosperity in the South", its lack of tourist attractions means that travellers only use it as a springboard to other sites, a city where to wait in transit before leaving it without returning. And yet some places are worthy of interest, and its markets are worth displacement. Historically, Nanchang remains primarily known for the so-called Ba Yi Communist insurgency, that is, 1 August 1927. Following the massacre in March of the same year of Communist troops by Chiang Kai-chek's faithful, the red officers withdrew to Nanchang. From here, with their troops taken by Zhou Enlai and Zhu De, they captured the city on August 1 st, before finally being hunted a few days later by the Kuomintang Loyalists.Despite the defeat, these clashes marked the birth of the Red Army, the one which, led by Mao Zedong since Hunan, finally came to the end of the Nanjing regime and introduced the People's Republic of China in 1949.
