TEMPLE MAN MO

In the middle of the market, this temple is dedicated to the taoist gods of literature and war. Tai Po once, a strategic point on the edges of a river that flows into Tolo Bay, controlled the imperial trade between Guangdong province and the Kowloon peninsula. The Premiers, the first inhabitants of Tai Po, have fished pearls in this region for a millennium. Under the Ming River, the pearls trade was so prosperous that an imperial garrison was established in Tai Po. When he refused, the troops were withdrawn. It was then that the Tang clan became the dominant power of the region.
