20 km northeast of Ulcinj, this small lake connected to the Bojana River by a narrow channel and surrounded by marshes populated by thousands of birds is a paradise for birdwatchers. To the north, you can see the ruins of a medieval building. It is the only building still standing in the old town of Svač. Fortified by the Illyrians, the site was one of the stops on the Roman road from Ulcinj to Shkodra in Albania. Rebuilt and then destroyed again at the end of the 16th century by the Turks, this ancient city has been in a state of ruin since the 17th century. According to records, Svač was once a magnificent city filled with churches.
