Partygoers gather in Pilar, on the banks of the Ñeembucú. Concerts and DJ's keep the youthful vibe going until the wee hours of the morning.
The "Hawaiian Festival" is one of the country's biggest music festivals. It takes place on the beach of the Ñeembucú river on the first Saturday in January, in the middle of the summer vacations. Thousands of people, dressed in Bermuda shorts, colorful skirts and flower necklaces, arrive from all over Paraguay, as well as from neighboring Argentina on the other side of the Paraguay River, to start the year in style. In the early evening, Latin rock and electro-pop bands fire up the crowd, before lively DJs keep the revelers dancing into the wee hours.
