The first Franciscan church in Paraguay was built in 1698, with materials recovered from the first Franciscan chapel, which was located on the site of the temple itself. The roof, the fresco behind the altar, the altarpiece, the doors and the statues are original. This well-preserved building is of great historical value. It was declared National and International Heritage in 2004 by the Paraguayan State. In front of the church there is a monument to the Unknown Soldier, in memory of the men from the city who fell during the Chaco War.
