LA RECOVA

In the port area, a stone's throw from the center, La Recova is a beautiful building designed in 1850 by Italian architect Alejandro Ravizza. It's one of the most traditional places to buy handicrafts and souvenirs, and has been since the 1940s, when the port was the place through which many visitors arrived or left Asunción. The picturesque setting still attracts tourists, and old stalls line the high arcades. After shopping, you can treat yourself to a fruit juice or dine on typical local cuisine.
