The town is a convenient base for visiting the main attractions of the west coast, including the Hoh Rainforest, the Sol Duc River Valley, Crescent Lake and the Pacific Ocean beaches at Rialto, LaPush and Kalaloch. Olympic National Park is bordered by Highway 101 to the west, north and east, and by Highways 8 and 12 to the south. Secondary roads provide access to the park, like the spokes of a wheel. No road penetrates the park completely from east to west or north to south. For the full experience, day hikes from the ends of the roads are recommended. Hiking trails are available in the Hoh Rainforest, along the west coast and around Crescent Lake. Popular trails include the Hall of Mosses Trail, the Sol Duc Falls Trail and the Marymere Lake Trail. Forks is an ideal base from which to explore Olympic National Park and enjoy the region's natural beauty.
