Literally means "Elephant Lake". 55 km on the road to Vang Vieng are caves and the remains of an ancient shrine. The site is believed to be close to an elephant graveyard. Vang Xang includes five large Buddha sculptures carved into the rock, two of which are 5m high and the other three 1.50m high. There are also five small Buddha figures and an inscription dated 928 that would correspond to the reign of Souryavarman, king of Angkor from 1002 to 1050. The site, close to Ban Houay Thon, was only discovered in the early 1970s by a Frenchman, Pierre-Marie Gagneux (1927-1996). Access to the site is subject to a fee.Note: The site is subject to a fee;
