Trelew is an important tourist and economic centre. With its railroad and airport, it is a major stopping-off point for visitors wishing to explore the surrounding area. The town is also an important commercial hub, particularly in the textile industry, with between 80 and 90% of the wool produced in Argentina industrialized and marketed here. Despite this economic activity, Trelew remains a quiet little town, rarely visited by tourists. It has a population of around 120,000. Trelew's climate is temperate and dry, with cold winters and hot summers. Winter temperatures fluctuate between 0 and 15ºC, while summer temperatures can reach 35-40ºC during the day. Nights, however, remain cool. It's a good idea to bring warm clothing in winter and sun protection in summer. Trelew is also a good starting point for observing the region's wildlife.
