Small museum with a gothic cross that commemorates the massacre carried out by the Franciscan friar Alonso de Mella in the 15th century
Inaugurated in 2010, this small museum was created to protect the Kurutziaga Cross from the elements. An icon of the town, this 16th-century Gothic cross is an expiatory monument commemorating the massacre carried out by the Franciscan fray Alonso de Mella in the 15th century, during the episode known as theDurango heresy. The cross is adorned with sculptures depicting the Twelve Apostles and Original Sin. At the heart of the museum, it can be seen on two levels. A section is also dedicated to the history of the Confrérie de la Vera Cruz.
