But WOW WAS I WRONG what a great place and the staff took me back to when customer was king era !!!! The service and food was AWESOME, get the egg salad sandwich WOW what a treat!!! I can't say enough great things about this place , and u know me I can never say enough bad things if you're business sucks !!!! HERE IS A DIAMOND IN THE RUFF DON'T WALK FN RUN TO JOES!!!!!!! Badass
My mom & dad would shop at the Long Beach Naval Base Commisary in the 70s & 80s and we would always stop at Joe Josts on the way home too La Mirada, Ca.
I, my brothers and sisters would have a rootbeer schooner and my dad had a schooner of Pabts everytime and specials to go around..

Oldest bar in Long Beach, and you can tell that regulars aren't very happy when new people come in. Cash only. Egg salad sandwich was really good, though.
2024 is the bar's 100th anniversary. Go in if you have never been or have not been in awhile. Classic Long Beach bar that is world famous. Great atmosphere. Cash only though.
100 yr anniversary, it is what it is. A special and an pickled egg n pretzels n peppers and a brewski and some pool???? Good stuff and known world wide????
Perfect dive bar. This is a quintessential dive bar. They have cheap drinks and food. Their food (super limited) is great for what you want from a dive bar; pickled eggs, pretzel sticks, sausage (beef hotdog) sandwich. Highly recommended for a bar!
Best place ever to grab a schooner of beer and a Josts special sandwich. Very Quick service by really laid back friendly staff. This Host’s special sandwich is simple it has a type of hot dog, but I don’t think it’s a regular hot dog, it’s served on rye bread with yellow mustard and sauerkraut. Alongside with pretzels and a pickled egg. I never liked pickled eggs even when I was back Midwest but I tried Joe’s and now I look forward to having one when I go. The Prices are very low & beer on tap is fresh. The crowd here is awesome down to earth Plenty of room to grab a seat by the bar or in a large area in back with more seating. Heaps of pictures that portray the history of the bars locals. This is such a down to earth spot it can never get more real than this.
Went on the 100th anniversary and got some pickled eggs and a couple schooners. Classic dive bar, cash only. Definitely worth a visit to see such an old establishment
A great place where locals hangout. ICE COLD scooners and cool environment..... Food is limited but their pickled eggs are legendary. Get a "Special" too a good sandwich....
If you like cool, old school bars that haven’t changed in decades, this is one. Long Beach is blessed with some good locked-in-time bars, and I think this might be the oldest.
We go in the day - crowd is varied - oldsters, pro drinkers, families with children. It’s not 21+ only. Has surprisingly high occupancy and TVs. Haven’t been here at night - don’t know that crowd.
FYI - I’m giving the food 5⭐️ because it’s a bargain, good bang for your buck; not because it’s great (at least in regard to the <$3.50 sandwiches I order, I’m cheap, I don’t order the pricey things on the menu).

They bought me two beers - and couldn't believe that I had never visited the place before.
Had the Joe sandwich - with the pickled eggs and the works - however, I'm going to have to try it with the egg salad next time.
The atmosphere is bustling and the people are - on both sides of the bar - were helpful and friendly.
I plan on hopefully, do it again soon.
5 Stars.
