KAREZ WELL
The karez system is a traditional irrigation system allied to many wells covering more than 1 600 kilometres in the vicinity of Turpan. Since it allowed irrigation in this oasis at the gates of the desert, this system was vital to the population. This museum explains to us all the subtleties with drawings and (quite funny it must be said) reconstructions.
To note, this system is of Persian origin, as it is found in Iran, and it clearly shows the importance of the exchanges that took place during the passage of the caravans onto the silk road.
